2002 ebusiness survey
As with last year's survey, the benchmarking study distinguishes between business-to-business and business-to-consumer purchases by asking businesses that allow customers to order online what proportion of the value of their online orders were made by households.
In each country, on average, the majority of the value of online orders received by businesses selling online is from orders made by businesses. In the UK, the average proportion of the value of online orders from households is 27%, up from 25% last year. The average in the USA and Canada is 35% and 34% respectively.
However, the proportion of businesses selling online that have over half the value of their online orders made by households has increased in all countries except Italy, Sweden and Japan, and has increased most significantly in France (14 percentage points to 30%). This suggests that the balance of online ordering is shifting slightly towards consumer sales, although business-to-business sales still take the largest share.
