e-commerce at Shiver Solutions

The Internet and e-commerce have drastically changed the way we do business in this global information economy. Markets and consumers are no longer confined by physical boundaries.

Millions are getting online everyday, which means millions are buying from the web. The general buying public is no longer web-phobic, so much so that the consumer demand for e-commerce is far outpacing businesses in the UK.

Custom built solutions from Shiver Solutions

At Shiver Solutions we custom-build e-commerce web sites that empower our clients to self-manage their sites and streamline their business processes without the need for programming or website design knowledge.

Adding an online sales facility to your existing web site or having an e-commerce web site designed and built by Shiver Solutions is one way of attracting new business or adding value to an existing contract. E-commerce will increase the profitability of the web, both for you and your customers. 30 million people in the UK currently use the internet.

Software solutions from Shiver Solutions

Actinic e-commerce products are used by three times more web designers in the UK than any other boxed e-commerce solution. Every e-commerce solution offers basic catalogue and shopping cart functions, but Actinic offers much more.

Actinic Catalog is a complete store management solution that includes everything necessary to control a secure web store. Actinic Catalog enables you the merchant to maintain your online catalogue and store content, while continuing to allow design changes to be made by the web developer, us. Actinic is the standard by which all other shopping cart packages are rated.

e-commerce: Abbreviation for electronic commerce. A way of doing real-time business transactions via telecommunication networks, when the customer and the merchant are in different geographical places.

Note: Electronic commerce is a broad concept that includes virtual browsing of goods on sale, selection of goods to buy, and payment methods.

Electronic commerce operates on a bona fide basis, without prior arrangements between customers and merchants.

e-commerce operates via the Internet using all or any combination of technologies designed to exchange, access and to capture data.

Businesses that place orders online 2000-2002

Last year most European countries, including the UK, saw a sharp reduction in the proportion of businesses ordering online. This year there has been an increase in every country in the study. The UK has seen a 17 percentage point increase in the proportion of businesses placing orders online - up from 33% to 50% this year. The greatest increase in online ordering occurred in Sweden, rising from 25% to 70%.

In the UK the proportion of businesses ordering online increases with size, ranging from 29% of micro to 61% of large businesses. Businesses in the Construction, Retail and Government sectors are least likely to use online technologies for ordering goods and services (43%, 38% and 41% respectively).

Thus, while the growth in the proportion of businesses that accept online orders has slowed significantly since 2001, more and more businesses have been willing to order their own goods and services online and, in most countries, the proportion that order online is now greater than the proportion that enable their customers to do so (the exceptions are Germany and Japan). This may be explained by the fact that it requires little commitment or investment in ICT for a business to place orders online - a simple Internet connection is sufficient; whereas accepting orders online from customers may require more commitment from the business in terms of reorganising internal systems and, perhaps, a perception that more investment in ICT is required.
